Feeling
This trailer is interesting and inspiring, with rich storytelling through the environment and subtle gestures. I love the cozy, happy vibe, and aimed to match it in the sound design. For the flying manta ray/whale creatures, I wanted them to sound big and majestic, yet not dangerous—Especially during their impact with the boat, which to me felt more like an "oops, sorry" than aggression.
I love the slow pace of this trailer; it allows each moment to linger. This gave me room to play a lot with audio and especially changes in ambiance.

Grounding the listener
In a few frames you can see some sort of wind chimes hanging in the boat. So When the boat is shown, it makes sense to hear the wind chimes, just like the other boat ambience sounds. even if they aren’t always visible.

Stereo
With many elements moving across the screen, I focused on panning sounds to match their position in the world.

I mainly focused on creating voices for the two children and the parental figure, aiming for distinct yet similar sounds suited to their species and age. I recorded my voice with varied textures, then applied a FX chain with smal variations for the diffrent individuals like different pitch and EQ for each character.
Individual Voices

I felt humans wouldn’t understand these creatures' language, so I recorded non-verbal sounds to convey emotions. Since they lack mouths, I recorded mainly closed-mouth sounds, aiming for what they might sound like in real life.
This required strong tonal character, as slight changes in tone—like with “oooh’s” and “mmm’s”—can completely shift the emotion.
